Short answer: In Last Asylum: Plague, max one Training Ground for your highest tier, keep three others low for T4 production, then promote T4 into your current top tier — it trains more troops in less total time than queuing high-tier soldiers directly.

Waiting a full day for a few hundred troops is one of the most frustrating bottlenecks in Last Asylum: Plague. You upgrade your Sanctuary, unlock a shiny new troop tier, queue training on your main Training Ground, and then watch the timer crawl for 30+ hours while your barracks sit empty.

There is a better way — and it uses all four Training Grounds at once. This guide covers the research you need first, how to split building levels across your grounds, the T4 promotion trick that cuts total training time, and when to burn speed-ups during Alliance Duel for maximum value. If you are still in week one, skim the first 7 days events guide for troop unlock milestones before you commit resources to this setup.

Why Troop Training Feels Slow

Troop power is your second-largest real battle stat after heroes — but only if you actually have soldiers in the barracks. Building might from decorative upgrades does not win fights; trained troops do. See fastest way to increase power for how soldiers fit into the full priority stack.

The default instinct is to queue your highest unlocked tier on every Training Ground you own. That works, but it is not efficient. High-tier batches take a long time per queue, you only run one tier per building, and you leave lower-level grounds idle or over-upgraded for no gain.

The efficient method flips that: mass-produce cheap T4 on three grounds, promote into your cap tier on the fourth.

Step 1 — Research That Speeds Up Training

Before you touch building levels, invest in the right Research Lab nodes. Three trees matter most for troop throughput. For where these fit in the wider lab order, see the ultimate research roadmap.

Full Development tree

Research nodeWhat it does
Training SpecializationIncreases troop training speed
Training Ground ExpansionIncreases training capacity per queue (more troops per batch)

Push both as far as your lab level allows. Training speed shortens every queue; capacity means each finished batch is larger.

Development tree

Research nodeWhat it does
Training Ground ExpansionAnother capacity bump for your Training Grounds

This stacks with Full Development — more capacity on every ground you use.

Elite Troop tree

The Elite Troop branch is where tier unlocks live. You will spend a large share of Study Scrolls here over time because each soldier tier gate sits in this tree. It also has its own Training Ground Expansion node for yet more batch size.

Capacity vs speed: Training capacity is the number of troops you train per queue. Speed reduces time per queue. You want both before you worry about squeezing extra tiers out of building levels.

Step 2 — Unlock All Four Training Grounds

You can run four Training Grounds in parallel:

GroundHow you get it
Grounds 1–3Unlock automatically as your Sanctuary level rises
Ground 4Unlocked through the Development research tree (bottom of the branch)

Do not stop at three. The whole strategy depends on running three cheap queues plus one promotion queue at the same time. Use the Training Grounds calculator when you plan upgrade costs.

Step 3 — Split Your Building Levels

This is the core building setup. Do not level all four Training Grounds equally.

Training GroundTarget levelPurpose
Main ground (1 of 4)Max — match your Sanctuary capUnlocks your highest trainable tier (T9 at Sanctuary 27, T10 at Sanctuary 30 + Elite Troop research)
Other three groundsLevel 10 (enough for T4)Cheap, fast T4 production queues

Why only one maxed ground?

The highest Training Ground level sets which tier you can train or promote to. You only need one building at that cap. The other three exist purely as T4 factories — Level 10 is enough to queue Tier 4 soldiers quickly without wasting wood, grain, and herbs on levels you do not need.

Example at Sanctuary 27: main ground at Level 27 (T9 unlocked), three support grounds at Level 10 (T4 unlocked).

Step 4 — The T4 Promotion Trick

Here is the loop that saves hours every cycle.

Phase A — Train T4 on three grounds

Queue Tier 4 troops on each of your three lower-level Training Grounds. T4 trains fast and cheap.

Example numbers at a mid-game account (your exact counts scale with research and building level):

QueueTroops per batchTime
One Level-10 ground455~10h 31m
Three grounds combined~1,365~10h 31m (parallel)

That is the key insight: three parallel queues triple your output in the same wall-clock time.

Phase B — Promote T4 → your cap tier on the main ground

Open your max-level Training Ground, switch to Promote (not Train), and promote stored T4 into your current top tier — e.g. T9.

MethodTroopsTime
Train T9 directly712~1d 8h 57m
Promote T4 → T9712~16h 28m

Same headcount, dramatically shorter promotion queue.

Total time comparison

PathStepsTotal time
Promotion route~10.5h T4 training + ~16.5h promotion~26 hours
Direct high-tier trainingSingle T9 queue~33 hours

That is roughly six to seven hours saved per cycle — plus you always have T4 cooking in the background, so your barracks rarely sit empty.

"But T4 is low tier!" — You are not marching with T4. You are using them as promotion fuel. The soldiers that leave the main ground are full tier. Think of T4 as lumber for a higher-tier blueprint.

Step 5 — Daily Habit and Speed-Ups

Always keep queues running

Treat Training Grounds like your farm buildings: never leave them idle. Start the next T4 batch the moment one finishes on your three support grounds; feed promotions on the main ground as soon as you have enough T4 banked.

When you need troops urgently

The promotion pipeline shines for steady growth. When you need a burst — before a rally, boss, or event — you can still train your cap tier directly on the main ground and spend speed-ups on that queue. The T4 stockpile gives you flexibility either way.

Alliance Duel timing

Sync big speed-up spends with Alliance Duel Day 5 (training day):

  • Activate Mighty Training (or your alliance training boost) before you burn speed-ups.
  • Troop training during the event scores training points.
  • Promotion does not count toward troop-training event points — but speed-ups consumed during promotion do count toward speed-up scoring categories.

Plan accordingly: if the day rewards raw training volume, queue fresh T4 or direct trains before promoting. If it rewards speed-up usage, promotion queues are still fair game. Full event context lives in the first 7 days events guide and power growth guide.

Troop Tier Unlock Reference

Training Ground and Sanctuary levels gate which tiers you can reach. Rough milestones:

T10 is a long-term goal — finish Alliance Duel research first so you have the Study Scrolls Elite Troop demands.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

MistakeWhy it hurts
Leveling all four grounds to maxWastes resources; only one ground needs the tier cap
Training only high tier on every groundOne slow queue instead of three fast ones
Skipping Training Ground Expansion researchSmaller batches = fewer troops per day
Ignoring the fourth Training GroundYou lose a full parallel queue
Burning all speed-ups outside Alliance DuelMiss free event points and alliance rewards
